Transfer your Housing Choice Voucher to Travis County
If you currently have a Housing Choice Voucher from another Public Housing Authority and would like to move to Travis County, Texas, you can "port" your voucher to HATC. The portability process allows you to use your rental assistance in our jurisdiction.
How to port your voucher
Notify your current PHA
Inform your current Public Housing Authority (PHA) that you wish to port your voucher to Travis County, TX.
PHA sends paperwork
Your current PHA will send the portability paperwork to HATC, including your voucher documents and family information.
HATC receives your file
HATC will receive and review your portability package from the sending PHA.
Contact HATC
Contact Andrea Broadnax at HATC to confirm receipt of your paperwork and schedule your briefing.
Attend briefing
Attend a portability briefing session where HATC staff will explain local rules, payment standards, and your responsibilities.
Begin housing search
After your briefing, you can begin searching for housing in Travis County. The unit must meet HQS standards and the landlord must agree to participate.
